The Nothing Paradox: A Unified Framework for Existence as Aperiodic Self-Referential Oscillation

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper was written to address one of the most fundamental and unanswered questions in philosophy and physics: “Why does anything exist at all?”Building on John Shand’s argument that absolute nothingness is conceptually impossible, this research proposes that such impossibility is not passive — it is dynamically unstable. That instability, when expressed through self-reference, gives rise to oscillation — a process of continuous transformation between being and non-being. The study introduces a mathematical feedback model showing how even a perfectly balanced zero state inevitably produces motion and pattern, resulting in an aperiodic yet deterministic vibration that manifests as existence itself. This framework connects logic, chaos theory, and quantum physics to suggest that reality is the natural consequence of nothing’s inability to remain nothing. Published as The Nothing Paradox, this work aims to give modern structure to an ancient question — not through metaphysics alone, but through a formal, testable, and cross-disciplinary model of how existence emerges from fundamental instability.
