Emission Control Technologies for Sustainable Mechanical and Automotive Systems
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Emission control has become one of the most critical areas of research in response to increasing environmental concerns, stringent government regulations, and the global push for sustainable development. Pollutants such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter (PM) released from internal combustion engines and industrial processes pose serious threats to air quality and public health. This research paper focuses on the analysis of emission control strategies and technologies aimed at reducing these harmful pollutants while maintaining energy efficiency. Key approaches include catalytic converters, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), diesel particulate filters (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and advanced fuel injection systems. Emerging solutions such as hybridization, biofuels, and hydrogen-based combustion are also discussed as sustainable alternatives. The paper evaluates the effectiveness of these technologies in lowering emissions, compares traditional and modern methods, and highlights future trends toward zero-emission systems. The findings underscore the importance of integrating emission control technologies with cleaner energy sources for achieving global climate goals.
