Open Humanities Manifesto – an advocacy case for humanities in the Open Science era

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This poster presents the Open Humanities Manifesto (OHM), an advocacy initiative developed in 2024 by researchers, editors, librarians, and cultural sector representatives in Poland. The Manifesto calls for the recognition of open science practices within the humanities and outlines four key postulates for reforming research assessment: (1) acknowledging and supporting open science practices, (2) recognising the diversity of research outputs specific to the humanities, (3) supporting and sustaining open publishing models, and (4) strengthening national open science infrastructure to foster the development and internationalisation of the humanities. By echoing global initiatives such as Plan S, CoARA, DORA, and the Helsinki Initiative on Multilingualism, the OHM aligns the humanities with the broader movement for responsible and inclusive research assessment. It also complements OPERAS and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) by articulating local needs while promoting international interoperability. The poster was prepared specifically for the GraspOS 2025 Conference, where it was first made publicly available, contributing to discussions on advancing research assessment in the spirit of open, transparent, and context-sensitive science.
