NODES - SPOKE 6 Project VINO - D8.1 - Report on the technical specifications of the GIS platform, inventory of the available datasets, and harmonization strategies

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This document provides a comprehensive overview of the design, implementation, and data integration processes of the Geographic Information System (GIS) developed within the Flagship Project VINO. The report describes both the local GIS platform developed by the University of Pavia and the online GIS portal implemented by ERSAF. The local GIS platform, developed by the University of Pavia, integrates heterogeneous environmental and agricultural datasets for the Oltrepò Pavese area – covering soil, geology, land use, topography, meteorology, and satellite data—to support spatial analyses and suitability mapping for Pinot Noir cultivation. In parallel, ERSAF implemented a cloud-based GIS portal on Google Cloud using ArcGIS Enterprise architecture. This system enables centralized data management, harmonization, and visualization of all project-related geospatial information. Together, the two platforms provide a robust, interoperable infrastructure that supports research, monitoring, and data-driven decision-making for sustainable viticulture and agro-industrial innovation. This document is a deliverable of the project VINO ("VIneyard management for viNeprOduction"), which proposes research for sustainable innovation supported by the digitalisation of the wine sector with the primary objective of creating new solutions and readapting existing practices to cope with the effects of climate change in viticulture. This document is part of the project NODES which has received funding from the MUR – Missione 4, Componente 2, Investimento 1.5 – Creazione e rafforzamento di “Ecosistemi dell’innovazione”, costruzione di “leader territoriali di R&S'' – del PNRR funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU with grant agreement no.
