Integrating Quality Management in Construction: Principles, Practices, and Technological Advancements
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Quality management in construction is a crucial component that determines the success, safety, and sustainability of infrastructure projects. This study explores the evolution, principles, and applications of quality management within the construction industry, emphasizing the significance of systematic approaches such as ISO 9000, Total Quality Management (TQM), and Construction Quality Assessment Systems (CONQUAS). Through an extensive literature review, the research highlights how effective quality management enhances productivity, reduces rework, ensures compliance with standards, and improves customer satisfaction. The paper also examines the teachings of quality pioneers Deming, Juran, and Crosby whose philosophies form the foundation of modern quality improvement practices. Furthermore, it analyzes key factors influencing productivity, causes of low labor efficiency, and the importance of continuous monitoring and audits in ensuring construction excellence. The findings reveal that integrating technology-driven tools like Building Information Modeling (BIM), digital audits, and sustainable management frameworks strengthens performance, accountability, and long-term project value. Overall, the study underscores that achieving quality in construction requires leadership commitment, stakeholder collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement across all project phases.
