The Teleo-Ontological Argument from Unexplained Directedness: Why Humanity Must Ontologically Posit God
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper introduces the Teleo- Ontological Argument from Unexplained Directedness (TOAUD), demonstrating that the concept of God is an ontological necessity within the structure of human rationality. When confronted with primitive teleology—from viral receptor binding to cosmological fine-tuning—humanity faces an explanatory regress that cannot terminate in contingency. The argument shows that rational thought requires positing a Final Explainer as transcendental condition for coherent teleological explanation. Critical engagements with contemporary naturalism (Dennett, Rosenberg) and comparison with Kant’s moral argument establish TOAUD’s distinctiveness. Integration with Islamic philosophy (Avicenna, Averroes) and Quranic exegesis reveals this rational necessity as anticipated in āyāt kauniyyah. TOAUD thus proves why humanity must ontologically posit God, rendering theism not optional belief but rational imperative.
