Light and Relic — Inner Provenance Layer (v1.1)
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Inner Provenance Layer (IPL) — Version 1.2Light and Relic — Living Provenance System This document presents Version 1.2 of the Inner Provenance Layer (IPL) definition and methodological description within the Light and Relic provenance architecture. The IPL is a sealed, non-public provenance stratum that contains a single micro-inscription embedded exclusively inside the Private Provenance File of the relic. It represents the inner, subjective witness layer created at the moment the artefact was completed and conceptually sealed. Version 1.2 provides a refined and ISO-aligned formulation of the IPL while remaining fully consistent with the conceptual and artistic foundations published in Version 1.1.The update clarifies: the terminological structure of the IPL according to ISO 704 and ISO 1087 the archival fixity requirements following ISO 23081 the position of the IPL within the Living Provenance methodological hierarchy its distinction from the Surface Identity Method, Material Provenance, and Visual Provenance the role of cryptographic and archival safeguards (FES, OTS, PAR2, M-Disc) The IPL remains an unpublished, non-extractable, and permanently sealed content layer, whose existence is verifiable through its surrounding cryptographic integrity but whose message remains intentionally concealed. It forms the inner qualitative core of the Living Provenance Relic and complements the system’s open and measurable provenance layers. This document replaces none of the conceptual foundations of Version 1.1; it extends and formalizes them for long-term archival clarity, semantic stability, and accurate scholarly citation.
