Reddit Mental-Health Landscape and the Role of Sacred Practice

Abstract: This study analyzes 941 Reddit posts across multiple psychedelic-related subreddits using topic modeling and large language model (LLM) summarization. Twenty-three topics emerged, reflecting how users negotiate risk, meaning, and transformation around psilocybin use. Three thematic axes organize this discourse: Safety vs. Exploration, Before → During → After, and Science vs. Lived Experience. Posts reveal an informal ecosystem of peer-led harm reduction, integration, and digital mysticism, where individuals collectively process powerful experiences outside clinical or religious structures. The findings illuminate unmet needs for structured integration frameworks and suggest design opportunities for scientifically grounded spiritual communities.
