Comparative Study of Solar PV Water Pumping Systems in India: Transforming Agriculture

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This paper discusses the design and testing of Solar PV Water Pumping Systems (SPVWPS) in India, highlighting the advantages of solar water pumps, technical challenges, and potential to improve crop yield with a strong focus on the positive impact of such systems on Indian farmers. Additionally, the paper explores different types of pumps, including helical, centrifugal, and reciprocating piston pumps, and provides detailed information of SPVWPS working principles as well as various components and performance characteristics. Furthermore, this paper provides insights into the test protocols for solar water pumps, specifically for Indian climatic conditions. The study concludes by evaluating the performance of various pump types and demonstrating how solar water pumps contribute to improving agricultural productivity and economic stability for Indian farmers.
