Evaluating Behavioral Congruence Between Business Objectives and System Specifications
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Software process models provide a systematic framework for developing reliable andmaintainable software products. Several process models, including the Waterfall, Spiral, and Vmodel, are widely discussed in software engineering literature. Regardless of the model used, therequirement analysis phase is a critical and common step. The success of any software projectdepends on how effectively business needs are transformed into precise system specifications, which is the core objective of the requirement analysis stage. Ensuring proper alignment betweenbusiness requirements and system specifications is therefore essential. This alignment can beachieved by understanding the behavioral profile of business requirements during the early stagesof development. A behavioral profile represents the detailed behavioral characteristics of aprocess, offering valuable insights into its dynamic aspects. Based on this understanding, systemspecifications can be better aligned with business objectives. However, bridging the differingviewpoints of business analysts and system analysts remains a challenging task, as it involvescorrelating multiple requirement properties. Consequently, achieving strong consistency betweenbusiness requirements and system specifications is often difficult due to such misalignments. In thisstudy, we propose an approach to estimate the degree of consistency between businessrequirements and system specifications. The results indicate that the proposed estimationtechnique significantly enhances the performance and accuracy of the requirement analysis phaseacross various software process models
