Blurred Vision Following Transcatheter ASD Closure: Device Embolization to the Aortic Arch

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Atrial septal defect (ASD) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases in childhood. Transcatheter closure has become the first-line treatment due to its minimally invasive nature and high success rates. However, device embolization is a rare but potentially serious complication. Herein, we present a case of blurred vision following ASD closure, where the occluder device was found to have embolized to the aortic arch. The clinical course, diagnostic work-up, and retrieval of the device are discussed, along with possible pathophysiological mechanisms.
