Optimizing Seismic Resilience in High‐Rise Structures Through Comprehensive Evaluation and Enhancement of Outrigger Systems: A Comparative and Multifaceted Study
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT The increased number of towering structures in cities across the globe cannot be overemphasized; the need to pay close attention to the seismic design for life safety of occupants is paramount. Outrigger systems are now considered to be handy for enhancing the sideways stability of tall buildings particularly in places that experience an earthquake. The aim of this research is to review and compare several design factors of seismic outrigger systems with emphasis on their adaptability to the Czech construction environment. The increased number of towering structures globally necessitates enhanced seismic designs for occupant safety. This research addresses the critical gap in the lack of optimized outrigger systems for seismic resilience in high‐rise buildings. Using ABAQUS software for numerical simulations, we evaluate key design parameters—height, location, stiffness, and size of outrigger systems—and their impact on seismic responses such as inter‐story displacement, base shear, and acceleration spectra. The study identifies optimal configurations for outrigger systems, providing valuable insights into their design and implementation for minimizing seismic responses in tall structures. This work fills a research gap by addressing the inadequacies in existing approaches to outrigger system optimization, which often fail to account for regional seismic variations or systematic design parameter evaluations.
