Peer Review Critique of Maxwell's A Dynamical Theory of the Electromagnetic Field (1865)

Type: article
Abstract: This work provides a complete variational, mathematical, and conceptual reassessment of James Clerk Maxwell’s 1865 manuscript “A Dynamical Theory of the Electromagnetic Field”, evaluated directly from the original text.Using the Universal Ψ Equation as the modern foundational framework, we demonstrate that the entire Maxwellian construction is mechanically based and fundamentally incompatible with Lorentz invariance, gauge symmetry, and contemporary field-theoretic principles. The 1865 theory relies on an elastic ether, mechanical stresses, and displacement fields, and does not contain any Lagrangian, action principle, or generative structure capable of producing the electromagnetic tensor FμνF_{\mu\nu}Fμν. By contrast, Maxwell’s equations emerge naturally and unavoidably from the second functional variation of the Universal Ψ Lagrangian:(i) gauge symmetry arises from local spinorial phase invariance;(ii) Lorentz invariance emerges from the coherence constraints of the Ψ field;(iii) AμA_\muAμ and FμνF_{\mu\nu}Fμν are generated as bilinear and antisymmetric coherent modes;(iv) the full Maxwell system is recovered equation-by-equation as a low-coherence sector of the Ψ field. The document includes a full structural comparison table, the explicit reconstruction of the electromagnetic tensor from Ψ, a derivation of gauge invariance, and a complete mapping from Maxwell’s equations to the underlying spinorial variations. This work establishes that classical electromagnetism is not fundamental, but an emergent and derivative limit of the Universal Ψ Equation.
