Action-angle variables in quantum gravity

Abstract: We formulate an argument, based on the use of the action-angle variables and the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule, to the effect that if there exists the smallest possible non-zero area, there also exists, for massive particles, the largest possible observable speed, which is a bit less than the speed of light.
