Abstract: This paper presents a survey on how an intelligentapproach can be embedded in Sliding Mode Control (SMC)to overcome the problems faced in the practicalimplementation of SMC. An intelligent Sliding Mode Control(ISMC) has emerged by integrating conventional SMC withComputational Intelligence Techniques like GA, PSO foroptimal gain tuning, Neural Network (NN) - based control forsystem identification and control of closed-loop systems, andfuzzy-based SMC.
