Employee acceptance and adoption of a new collaboration platform : a mixed-methods case study

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Introduction: This case study examines employee acceptance and adoption of a new collaboration platform. As digitalization and flexible work arrangements increase, organizations introduce more applications. Understanding factors shaping behavioral intentions and their translation into actual usage is key. This study analyzes key acceptance factors and the process of behavioral adoption. Methods: A mixed-methods approach integrates three quantitative measurements with qualitative interviews, based on an integrated model combining the Technology Acceptance Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior. Data is collected pre-implementation, during implementation, and post-implementation. After the second measurement, qualitative studies explore differences between subgroups, usage patterns, and gaps between intention and behavior. The study is ongoing; at this stage, only the first measurement of the pre-implementation phase has been completed (N = 163). Preliminary results suggest that employees who feel well-informed about the implementation process exhibit a higher intention to integrate the new application into their daily work. Additionally, findings indicate that perceived usefulness has the strongest positive influence on behavioral intention (b = .417). Conclusions: Preliminary results indicate that the new application aligns with employees' needs; however, it remains unclear how attitudes toward the application may change if expectations are not met. Additionally, this study aims to contribute empirical field data to the literature and enhance the understanding of the relationship between the two integrated models through an applied research approach.
