Updates on the Karabo control system
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Karabo is a SCADA system developed at the European XFEL to facilitate operations in a complex and flexible control environment, and to ingest and process data from diverse sources, including MHz-rate detectors, frequently with tight time correlation requirements. In this contribution an overview of the current state of the Karabo Ecosystem is given and recent developments are presented. These include the introduction of authentication and authorization, the transition from Boost.Python to pybind11 and from Boost to the C++ standard library, and additional modernization of the codebase. These significant changes are reflected in a new major version, Karabo 3, which replaces the 10-year old Karabo 2 branch.
