Locating and Tracing the Appendix during Surgical Interventions: Challenges and Innovations – A Case Report

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: The vermiform appendix is a lymphoid tube that resides ~ 2 cm below the junction of the small intestine with the large intestine at the ileocecal junction.Distinct growth pattern of the cecum during developmental stages can result in variations in the appendix's anatomical location.A 53-year-old male patient presented at Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences Emergency Department on September 2023 with a complaint of pain in the periumbilical region. On physical examination, mild tenderness was found in the right lower abdomen. The complete blood count report was normal, while the white blood cell count was raised (16,500/cumm).On laparoscopic procedure, the appendix could not be successfully located.
