Abstract: Background: Diabetes mellitus is certainly a disease of lifestyle.Increased global burden makes diabetes as emerging health problem; though genetic predisposition plays important role in disease development, nutritional and immunological factors are of vital concern. So, we aimed to assess the nutritional role of copper, zinc, and immunological pattern by assessing interleukin-6 (IL-6) level in diabetic and prediabetes patients.Materials and methods: A total of 150 outdoor patients attending diabetic clinic were taken, who were further divided into three groups (controls, prediabetic, and diabetic).Parameters such as Zinc, Copper, and IL-6 were assessed in these patients. Results and observation:The study indicates that individuals with diabetes tend to have higher serum copper levels compared with those with prediabetes or healthy individuals. In our study, it was found that the levels of serum zinc were considerably less in diabetic patients in comparison with prediabetic and control groups. As per our study, it was found that IL-6 slightly increases in diabetes patients. Conclusion: A positive correlation between the levels of serum copper, zinc, and IL-6 in prediabetes patients and diabetes patients was found in our research. We found that diabetes is a disease of the urban population, and emphasizing their serum levels can provide new insights into the prognostic and therapeutic potential of serum copper, zinc, and inflammatory markers, which can be helpful in early diagnosis, monitoring disease progression, and developing targeted treatments for better management of diabetes and its complications.
