Abstract: Narrative identity is a subjective recollection of the personal past, which serves to integrate a life. Narrative identity emerges in adolescence, with clear pre‐cursors in childhood, and with consequence for mental health and well‐being in adolescence and adulthood. This entry reviews the theoretical foundation of the field, major dimensions of narrative identity, its development, and current and future research.
