Abstract: Learning Objectives Describe two leading theories of minority stress Define the terms "heterosexism" and "internalized heterosexism" Distinguish between distal and proximal minority stressors Explain the connection between minority stress theory and trauma theory, and minority and non-minority specific factors as contributors to PTSD outcomes for SMW Explain the complex role of social support among this population, and how it may impact minority and non-minority specific psychological processes Identify and implement best practices for working with trauma-exposed sexual minority women, and incorporate findings from the literature into clinical practice
