Freedom, Responsibility, and the Digital War of All Against All: A Tenson-Philosophical Reconstruction of Hobbes in the Age of Social Media
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In the digital era, online discourse has descended into a new Hobbesian state of nature—a war of all against all mediated through networks of misinformation, hatred, and algorithmic amplification. This paper reconstructs Thomas Hobbes’s conception of freedom and responsibility within the framework of the Tenson Philos- ophy, arguing that social media’s informational imbalance represents a breakdown of the moral tensor field. The Tenson Equation, ∇·(E + iI) = Jmoral, provides a new model for understanding how unbounded freedom without informational re- sponsibility leads to ethical divergence and systemic instability. Responsibility, in this framework, is the tensorial corrective restoring resonance to the moral field.
