Gemetastaseerde borstkanker: heterogeniteit van de tumor, zijn microomgeving en behandelingsdoelen
Year: 2025
Type: dissertation
Abstract: This doctoral thesis intends to evaluate, comprehend and explore the field of heterogeneity within the tumour microenvironment of human breast cancer metastases. Multi-omics data will be generated using samples collected in the context of the UPTIDER post-mortem tissue donation program at the KU/UZ Leuven. Using bioinformatic and biostatistical approaches, the project is expected to provide novel information of the intra-patient, inter-metastasis heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment, as well as to generate organ-specific knowledge. Finally, the thesis intends to place a broader perspective on the field of breast cancer, facilitating a cohesive understanding of the tumour microenvironment, with the ultimate goal to refine the treatment of future patients with breast cancer.
