Investigating the role of personality traits and needs frustration in students' over-reliance on ChatGPT: An I-PACE framework approach

Abstract: The increasing use of Generative AI in educational settings has raised concerns about students' over-reliance on these tools, potentially affecting their learning and development. Previous studies have demonstrated that over-reliance or dependency on Generative AI, such as ChatGPT, for academic work can negatively impact students' performance, and lead to negative outcomes such as memory loss and procrastination. This study aims to investigate how different personality traits and the frustration of basic psychological needs influence students' dependence on ChatGPT for academic assistance.
