Expériences de femmes souffrant d’un syndrôme prémensruel (SPM)

Year: 2024
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Introduction: according to Vidal, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a set of physical and psychological symptoms that occur about a week before menstruation and disappear a day or two afterwards. Although little studied and little taken into account in today's society, this syndrome is central to the lives of many women. The aim of this study is to gain an insight into the experience of those who suffer from this syndrome and to understand its evolution and impact.Method: a qualitative descriptive and analytical study was carried out based on individual semi-directed interviews with fifteen women suffering from PMS.Results and Discussion: the study revealed that the expression and experience of PMS differ from one woman to another. Different views, both negative and positive, emerged. The multitude of symptoms and feelings described by the women makes diagnosis difficult. As a result, treatment for this syndrome remains minimal for the time being. Women are finding their own solutions to relieve their symptoms. They expressed the need for health professionals to be more aware of the syndrome and take it into account. Conclusion: PMS has its place in training for the medical professions and in standard questioning during general or gynaecological medical consultations. Taking into account each patient's personal experience would help to improve management despite the difficulty of diagnosis.
