The Semiotic and Epistemological Resolution of the Binding Problem: From Kantian Unity to the Tenson Equation

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The Binding Problem, traditionally situated within neuroscience, concerns how distinct perceptual features such as color, motion, and form become unified into a coherent phenomenal experience. Yet beneath its empirical formulation lies a deeper semiotic and epistemological question: how do signs, perceptions, and meanings co- here within consciousness? This paper reinterprets the Binding Problem through the history of modern epistemology—from Descartes and Hume to Kant and Husserl—and demonstrates that the supposed disunity arises from a dualistic ontology separating the subject from the world. Drawing upon the Post-Postmodern Philosophy of Relation and the Philosophy of Fluctuation, unity is reconceived not as a constructed synthesis but as an emergent resonance between energy and information. The Tenson Equa- tion formalizes this resonance mathematically, showing that cognition itself satisfies a conservation law of dynamic equilibrium between real and informational domains.
