Abstract: Compassionate leadership prioritises staff wellbeing to facilitate a more engaged, committed and motivated workforce, which leads to better patient care. This article, the first in a series, describes compassionate leadership models and how the professional nurse advocate programme can support nurses with compassionate leadership approaches. The King’s Fund ABC wellbeing framework for compassionate leadership is supported by the professional nurse advocate role, while the Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement(A-EQUIP) professional leadership and clinical supervision framework is a core component of the professional nurse advocate programme
