Prompting Confidence: Empowering faculty through a hands-on prompt writing workshop

Abstract: highlights lessons from presenting a faculty and staff development workshop on crafting effective prompts for generative AI. The workshop offered a dedicated space for learning and reflection that allowed participants to gain confidence in AI usage. Engaging directly with the technology, workshop attendees practiced role assignment, output style specification, and few-shotting. This hands-on approach reinforced learning by offering immediate feedback, and the interactive exercises allowed them to deepen their understanding of AI tools and gain practical expertise in application.
