Comparative Analysis of Hybrid Solar Systems and Photovoltaic Solutions for Sustainable Energy in Hospital Infrastructure

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Installing solar systems on hospital buildings is a way to achieve energy sustainability. This research examines two ways to implement solar energy systems for water heating and power to healthcare facility locations: hybrid solar collectors and standard photovoltaics paired with standard water heater systems. The systems are evaluated based on performance, dependability, and installation convenience using performance simulations and spatial analysis. The extracted data also considers energy production, surface area use, and capital cost from each facility. Hybrid collectors demonstrate greater efficiency and more compact design, making this energy system feasible for a smaller building footprint. However, increased technical barrier and higher capital costs may limit installations. The alternative is more straightforward and has lower capital cost, but is less efficient and operationally require more rooftop area. The results suggest a trade-off between conservation performance and technology capital. Trade- offs are necessary based on specific project priorities, including available surface area, energy reliability, and/or capital cost. In conclusion, the study proposes a feasible approach to selecting energy systems for hospital buildings in urban contexts considering project-specific priorities such as surface availability, energy reliability, and budget.
