Abstract: In recent decades the role of estrogens in the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in women has attracted the attention of researchers. Estrogens have a significant effect on the cardiovascular system, helping to maintain a normal lipid profile, to reduce the level of oxidative stress and inflammation, and to improve endothelial function. These hormones play a key role in protection against atherosclerosis and hypertension, especially during the reproductive period. However, with the onset of menopause, when the level of estrogens decreases, the risk of cardiovascular diseases increases significantly. Such factors as age, the presence of concomitant diseases (for example, diabetes mellitus, obesity) and lifestyle (nutrition, physical activity, stress) play an important role in modifying the effect of estrogens on the cardiovascular system. This study examines the mechanisms of action of estrogens on the cardiovascular system and emphasizes the importance of the timely detection of hormonal changes for the prevention of CVD in women.
