Polluants environnementaux et anomalies dentaires : revue systématique de la littérature

Year: 2024
Type: dissertation
Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: Human beings are exposed to multiple environmental factors throughout their lives, the cumulative effect of which constitutes the exposome of an organism and directly influences its health and genome. Human activities, known as anthropogenic activities, expose us on a daily basis to numerous substances whose effects on health are well established, but still poorly understood. Environmental pollutants include the persistent organic pollutants, the heavy metals, the green house gases, the fine particles. The aim of this work is to assess their impact on dental anomalies, whether in terms of number, shape, structure or eruption. To assess this association, we carried out a systematic literature review to perform an exhaustive analysis of all articles dealing with this subject in humans and animals. The large number of existing pollutants makes the statistical analysis of this review complex. Further studies are needed to establish a more solid correlation between exposure to environmental pollutants and the development of dental anomalies, so that preventive action can be accelerated and standards can be improved.
