From Fields to Fjords: A Framework for Targeting Resilience by Simulating Longitudinal Growth Traits in Plants and Aquaculture.
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Background Selective breeding in plants and aquaculture has improved production and disease resistance, but gains are inconsistent across farming environments due to genotype-by-environment (GxE) interaction. Genotype reranking reduces selection accuracy and slows genetic progress. In aquaculture, environmental stressors such as extreme temperature can cause final weight loss and mortality, which is up to 17.7% annually for Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) in Scotland (Figure 1). Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of heat stress events.
