Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Introduction : The shoulder is a frequent site of malignant and benign tumors of the upper limb. The particular anatomy of the region affects the vital prognosis of the patient and the functional prognosis of his upper limb. Material and method : This is a retrospective study with a descriptive aim carried out within the Traumatology Orthopedics B department of the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Oujda, including 6 patients. Results : The frequent reasons for consultation of these patients were dominated by pain, swelling and limitation of mobility. Clinical examination and paraclinical explorations with histological analysis respectively established the diagnosis of two type B lymphomas, a chondrocarcinoma, a muscular myxoma, an aneurysmal bone cyst and a secondary localization in the shoulder of a mucinous carcinoma. Patient care varied according to histological type: shoulder prosthesis, scapulectomy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, radiotherapy and there were no post operative complications. Discussion : Conservative surgery for tumors around the shoulder can be performed in 95% of cases, making amputations exceptional but still particularly disabling, particularly on a dominant limb. The options for reconstruction after resection at the shoulder level are numerous but always result in functional after-effects of the operated limb. Conclusion : Tumors around the shoulder constitute a particular oncological entity which requires specialized, multidisciplinary and personalized care.
