CISR Framework: The I-layer as the Observational Reference in Consciousness Studies
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This preprint presents the CISR (C₀–I–S–R) framework, a fully operational, neuroscience-compatible approach to mapping consciousness. The I-layer is defined as a non-intervening, non-goal-directed observational reference, while absolute consciousness (C₀) remains invariant and non-operational. The framework is falsifiable, preserves conceptual clarity, and reframes the hard problem of consciousness by isolating monitoring from causation. The preprint includes candidate neural correlates, testable hypotheses, and integration with philosophical distinctions, offering a minimal and orthogonal condition for experiential reportability.
