Abstract: The domestic pharmaceutical industry is classified as a highly specific industry. The consequences of the painful transition from the command-administrative system to the market system have had a negative impact on the situation of the domestic pharmaceutical industry. The paper highlights key aspects that shape the relevance of the modern domestic drug-producing industry development, provides characteristics that shape specific features of the Russian pharmaceutical industry, reflects the difference between the industry's focus on generic products and the production of innovative drugs, considers the concept of "economic mechanisms", highlights methods for stimulating innovative activity in the works of various authors, groups mechanisms for stimulating innovative activity in various sectors of the Russian economy, identifies and formulates mechanisms for stimulating innovation in the pharmaceutical industry (cluster, investment, patent, public-private, state guarantees, educational, credit, tax). The research methods include a method of bibliographic research of publications on the content and structure of components of economic mechanisms for supporting and stimulating innovative activity at enterprises in various sectors of the economy with subsequent synthesis of the identified information, which makes it possible to identify the main types of mechanisms used or possible for use in the Russian pharmaceutical industry.
