Abstract: This case report describes the first documented instance of a dog aspirating a superabsorbent polymer bead, commonly marketed as Orbeez, and its successful removal. Superabsorbent polymers are widely used in children's toys and decorative products, and they possess the ability to expand significantly in water. A 2‐year‐old Boston terrier was referred for investigation of a chronic cough. Computed tomography revealed a right cranial bronchial obstruction, raising suspicion of a foreign body. Bronchoscopy confirmed the presence of a foreign body that could not be retrieved endoscopically. Surgical bronchotomy was performed, and a friable bead‐like material, consistent with an Orbeez bead, was removed. The dog recovered uneventfully, with resolution of clinical signs. This case highlights the importance of awareness among veterinary surgeons and pet owners regarding the hazards associated with superabsorbent polymer beads.
