Abstract: Surgery is the only effective treatment for severe aortic stenosis. Previously, valve replacement was only performed under cardiopulmonary bypass. Minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is currently available for high-risk patients, including elderly ones. However, there is a risk of hemorrhagic complications even in minimally invasive procedures. In general population, the incidence of bleeding requiring transfusion after TAVI is 6—9%. The risk of bleeding is even higher in patients with clotting disorders. We present successful management of a patient with hereditary factor XI deficiency who required surgical treatment for severe symptomatic aortic stenosis.
