Use of Single-dose Long-acting Octreotide in the Management of Symptomatic Lymphoceles Postrenal Transplantation: A Case Series
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Introduction: Lymphoceles are a rare complication postkidney transplantation. Management of symptomatic lymphoceles includes medical therapy with/without percutaneous drainage and surgery. The use of single-dose long-acting octreotide for the management has not been described in the past. Methodology: All patients who developed symptomatic lymphoceles over 1 year were treated with 20 mg of long-acting octreotide and with/without percutaneous drainage. We assessed the fluid collection, duration of symptoms, time of resolution of symptoms, rejection episodes, graft outcomes, and recurrences. Results: Of 20 patients, 3 developed symptomatic lymphoceles and complete resolution with drain outputs decreasing within an average of 6 days. Graft function improved, and pigtail drains were removed without recurrence. No adverse effects were observed during therapy. Conclusion: Single-dose long-acting octreotide may be an effective, minimally invasive option for managing lymphoceles postkidney transplantation.
