Issues faced by administrators after returning to school during the pandemic

Abstract: This study aims to determine the problems middle school administrators faced in returning to school following the pause to face-to-face education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample for this phenomenological study, a qualitative research design, includes 14 middle school administrators. The data used in the study was obtained through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using content analysis. The analysis concludes that school administrators experienced problems not only related to the educational and instructional process and auxiliary staff, but also problems pertaining to families, students, and organizational management to varying degrees according to the school environment, number of pupils, and dominant family structures. The fact that schools located in neigborhoods lying outside of urban centers and village schools were minimally affected by and partially exempted from the preventive prohibitons of the pandemic resulted in these schools experiencing minimal problems. It is suggested that future research determine how the behavioral changes observed in pupils returning to school following the COVID-19 pandemic affect their academic lives via longitudinal research. (Extended English summary is at the end of this document) Özet Bu araştırmanın amacı Covid-19 Pandemisi sürecinde yüz yüze eğitime verilen aradan sonra okula dönüşle birlikte ortaokul yöneticilerinin okul yönetiminde karşılaştıkları sorunları ortaya koymaktır. Nitel araştırma desenlerinden fenomenoloji (olgubilim) deseninde olan araştırmanın çalışma grubunda 14 ortaokul yöneticisi bulunmaktadır. Veriler, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Verilerinin çözümlenmesinde içerik analizine başvurulmuştur. Araştırmanın sonunda, okul yöneticilerinin eğitim-öğretim, öğretmen ve yardımcı personellerden kaynaklı sorunlarının yanı sıra aileler, öğrenciler ve işletme yönetimine ilişkin sorunlar da yaşadıkları ortaya konulmuştur. Söz konusu bu sorunlar; okulun bulunduğu çevreye, öğrenci sayısına ve ailelerin yapısına göre değişebilmektedir. İlçe merkezi dışında bulunan mahalle ve köy okullarının pandemi süreci içerisinde uygulanan yasaklardan en az derecede etkilenmiş olması, kapanma sürecinde bu okulların kapanmadan kısmen muaf tutulması yaşanan sorunların asgari düzeyde kalmasını sağlamıştır. Covid-19 Pandemisi sürecinde okula dönüş sonrasında öğrencilerde gözlenen davranış değişikliklerinin, bu öğrencilerin eğitim yaşamlarına yansımasının boylamsal çalışmalarla ortaya konulması önerilmektedir.
