Abstract: Fusobacterium polymorphum is an anaerobic, Gramnegative bacterium recently reclassified from F. nucleatum subspecies polymorphum based on genomic analyses [1].This organism plays a critical role as a bridging species in dental plaque biofilm formation and is implicated in periodontal diseases and systemic infections [2,3].Strain ChDC F218 (= KCOM 1260) was isolated from subgingival plaque of a patient with gingivitis and deposited to the Korean Collection for Oral Microbiology (WDCM 1178, Chosun University, Republic of Korea). The strain was cultured in tryptic soy broth (BD Difco Laboratories, USA) supplemented with 0.05% cysteine HCl•H 2 O, 5 μg/ml hemin, 0.5% yeast extract, and 2 μg/ml vitamin K 1 [1] in an anaerobic chamber (Model Bactron I, Sheldon Manufacturing Inc., USA) Fusobacterium polymorphum KCOM 1260 (= ChDC F218) was isolated from human subgingival plaque, and its complete genome was sequenced. The genome consists of a single circular chromosome of 2,635,767 bp with 26.9% G+C content, containing 2,592 genes, including 2,428 coding sequences, 48 tRNAs, and 15 rRNAs.Genome analysis identified genes for adhesion proteins, extracellular proteases, iron acquisition systems, hemolysin activators, and antibiotic resistance determinants. These virulence factors may facilitate colonization, biofilm formation, and host interaction. The genome sequence provides a valuable reference for future studies of the genetic and pathogenic features of F. polymorphum.
