This study explores the phenomenon of doctrinal election (al-istiṣfāʾ al-ʿaqdī) as one of the central concepts that has shaped the intellectual framework of both Judaism and Imami Shiite thought, through a comparative analysis that examines its origins, manifestations, and implications for the perception of self and the other. The research proceeds from the premise that the notion of divine election—when transformed from a spiritual concept into an instrument of privilege and exclusion—produces a closed ideological system that marginalizes opponents and establishes religious and sectarian racism. The study adopts a comparative analytical methodology, drawing upon original texts from the Jewish scriptures and Talmudic commentaries, as well as foundational Imami doctrinal sources such as al-Kāfī, al-Anwār al-Sāṭiʿa, and Amālī al-Ṭūsī. A critical analysis is provided of the theological notions related to election, primordial clay (ṭīnah), exclusive salvation, intercession, and ritual purity, along with their social and behavioral implications. The research concludes that both Jewish and Imami Shiite thought converge on a shared principle of exclusive election, which confines salvation and divine mercy to a specific group while excluding others. This mindset manifests in theological elitism, moral discrimination, and social isolation. In contrast, Islam refutes such exclusivist doctrines, affirming that human worth is determined by piety and righteous deeds, not lineage or sectarian affiliation, as expressed in the Qur’anic verse: “Indeed, the most honorable of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you” (Qur’an, 49:13).Ultimately, this study underscores the dangers of transforming theological concepts into tools of human division, and emphasizes the need to reconstruct religious consciousness on Qur’anic and universal human principles that reaffirm the divine values of justice, equality, and mercy at the heart of Islam.
