Magneto-Photoluminescent Hybrid Materials Based on Cobalt Ferrite Nanoparticles and Poly(terephthalaldehyde-undecan-2-one)

Type: article
Abstract: For this study, magneto-photoluminescent hybrid materials (MPHM) were prepared by incorporating cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (CFN) into the fluorescent polymer poly(terephthalaldehyde-undecan-2-one) (PT2U). The synthesized CFN exhibited an average particle size of 3.95 nm and a crystalline structure consistent with cobalt ferrite. Within the PT2U matrix, CFN formed aggregates whose size increased from 650 nm to 1042 nm with higher nanoparticle content, attributed to coordination bonds between the CFN and PT2U chains. This aggregation produced an almost progressive increase in the coercive magnetic field, associated with enhanced magnetic anisotropy, and led to the quenching of PT2U fluorescence. Additionally, the application of an external magnetic field further reduced the emission intensity of the polymer. This magnetically modulated quenching is ascribed to rearrangements in the spatial organization of PT2U chains, triggered by the displacement of CFN nanoparticles.
