Urban Plazas of Riyadh City: Quality Assessment from Users' Viewpoints and Proposed Improvement Measures الساحات الحضرية بمديمة الرياض: تقييم الجودة من وجهة نظر المستخدمين وضوابط تحسين مقترحة

Abstract: : Urban plazas are prominent elements in cities. They enable social interaction and are venues for cultural, social, economic, and other functions. Accordingly, these plazas must be of a high quality. Systems to measure the quality of plazas were developed to enable the planning for improvement measures. Riyadh has several major Plazas. In line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, assessing and improving the quality of those plazas is essential. Finding the level of quality of Riyadh major Plazas and their strengths and weaknesses represent the major contribution of this research. Founded on a user-based assessment methodology, the quality levels of Riyadh's plazas, e.g., Qasr Al-Hukum, Al-Kindi, and King Fahad National Library plazas were determined using a quality assessment system. The results showed that while Al-Kindi Plaza has achieved the targeted level, the quality of the other plazas fell short of the desired target. The results indicated that all plazas require improvement, including protection from the weather, landscaping enhancement, provision of more seating and art elements, and a higher level of cleanliness. Therefore, recommendations were provided to enhance the quality of Riyadh's plazas and those of other cities in the Kingdom. الملخص :للساحات أهمية بارزة في المدن. فهي تسمح بالتواصل الاجتماعي وتتيح إقامة الأنشطة المختلفة. وعليه، يجب أن تتمتع الساحات بجودة عالية لتتمكن من أداء دورها بفعالية. عمل باحثون على تطوير أدوات وأنظمة لقياس جودة الساحات. يقود التعرف على مستوى الجودة إلى وضع الخطط لرفعها. تحتوي الرياض على ساحات رئيسية متعددة. وحيث تطمح الرياض، تلبية لطموحات رؤية 2030، أن تكون مقصداً للسائحين، تسعى لرفع جودة حياة سكانها، فيلزم التعرف على مستوى جودة تلك الساحات مما يسمح بتطويرها. تتمثل مساهمات البحث في التعرف على مستوى جودة الساحات الرئيسية في الرياض وإظهار جوانب القوة والضعف فيها مما يسمح بتحديد المعالجات لرفع جودتها. اعتماداً على منهجية بحثية تضمنت جمع وتحليل ردود عينات من زوار الساحات في الرياض باستعمال نظام لقياس جودة ساحاتها، فقد جرى تحديد مستوى جودة ساحات الكندي، قصر الحكم، ومكتبة الملك فهد الوطنية. أبرزت النتائج أن ساحة الكندي قد حققت المستوى المستهدف للجودة، ولكن الساحات الأخرى لم تحقق ذلك. وأظهرت النتائج وجود جوانب للتحسين في كل الساحات، لا سيما الحماية من الظروف المناخية، التشجير، توفير مقاعد الجلوس وعناصر فنية وجمالية ونظافة المرافق. خلص البحث إلى وضع توصيات لرفع جودة ساحات الرياض وتعميم الفائدة على ساحات مدن المملكة.
