Impact of an educational intervention on nurses’ knowledge regarding catheter-associated urinary tract infection: A quasi-experimental study
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Clinical Trial
Abstract: ABSTRACT Background: Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) represent a significant burden in healthcare settings, accounting for a substantial portion of hospital-acquired infections. Aims: This study aimed to assess the impact of an educational program on nurses’ knowledge toward CAUTI prevention in a tertiary hospital. Materials and Methods: A total of 90 convenience registered nurses participated in a structured educational program involving simulation and case-based learning educational session. Data were collected using two validated tools: the nurses’ knowledge level and The Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Learning scale. Results: There was a statistically significant improvement in overall knowledge scores (from 19.2±5 to 31.5±4.8, P <0.001) across most CAUTI-related domains. Satisfaction and self-confidence in learning were strongly correlated with knowledge gains (r=0.82 and r=0.75, respectively). Significant associations were also found between knowledge improvement and factors such as years of experience and educational level. Conclusion: The findings underscore the effectiveness of targeted educational interventions in enhancing nurses’ competency in CAUTI prevention and highlight the importance of continuous professional development to improve patient outcomes and reduce infection rates.
