Abstract: Background: The upper eyelid marginal artery is located 2-3 mm from the upper eyelid margin. However, these data were likely obtained from Caucasian populations, and no such data have been reported in East Asians. Objective: To examine the distance from the upper eyelid margin to the marginal artery in East Asians. Methods: Central sagittal sections of 21 upper eyelids (12 right, 9 left) from 14 East Asian cadavers (7 male, 7 female), aged 38-88 years (mean age: 70.5 years) were histologically examined. The specimens were fixed in 10% formalin and stained with Masson's trichrome. The distance between the upper eyelid margin and the marginal artery of the tarsal plate was measured.Differences according to age (younger group, 38-61 years; older group, 73-88 years), sex, and laterality were analyzed. Results: The distance from the upper eyelid margin to the marginal artery averaged 3.00 mm (range: 2.28-4.72 mm).No significant differences were found in relation to age (p=0.602),sex (p=0.888), or laterality (p=0.522). Conclusion:In East Asian individuals, the marginal artery of the upper eyelid is typically located about 3.00 mm from the upper eyelid margin, with no significant variation observed based on age, sex, or laterality.Understanding this anatomical detail is crucial for ensuring safe and effective surgical procedures.
