Measurement of decay heat in ISIS new-style TS-1 target

Abstract: Measurements have been made of the decay heat generated within the new-style tantalum-clad ten-plate tungsten target for the First Target Station (TS-1) of the ISIS Spallation Neutron Source. The new-style target incorporates less tantalum than the old-style target, and the decay heat is correspondingly less. Measured values of decay heat agree well with values obtained from Monte Carlo calculations.
