Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: The Editor, We read the research article in your esteemed journal, recently published and cited as: Rao, Naveen Netaji. Comparative Efficacy of Oral Tranexamic Acid versus Oral Glutathione when Given in Combination with Modified Kligman Regimen in the Management of Melasma. Medical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth 17(2): p 449-453, Mar–Apr 2024[1] with keen interest. We congratulate the authors for a well-designed study. However, we have some comments: 1) Authors should have mentioned about upper age limit and whether treatment naïve patients were included or not in materials and methods section. 2) They should have specified whether patients with known hypersensitivity reaction to systemic or topical corticosteroids and tranexamic acid and known defective color vision were included or excluded.[2] 3) Information on the professional background (average hours of sun exposure) of patients and their perimenopausal age should have been mentioned as there is an association of melasma with sun exposure and hormonal imbalance in the perimenopausal age group, respectively. 4) Skin type of the patient should have been mentioned since, Wood lamp method is not reliably used in Fitzpatrick skin type V and VI.[3] 5) Severity of melasma should have been mentioned as it is the important factor to calculate mMASI score.[3] 6) Minimum sun protection factor of sunscreen used and frequency of application should have been mentioned,[4] along with use of cosmetics, history of anxiety, and stress. Participant flow diagram should have been added. 7) Adverse drug reactions and explanation for patients who lost to follow-up should have been mentioned. 8) In Table 1, instead of “%Age” the word “percentage” should have been mentioned.[1] Sincerely, Dr. S.
