Study design: Case Report
Abstract: IntroductIonIntestinal intussusception is a rare condition in adults, accounting for only 5% of all cases and approximately 1-5% of causes of intestinal obstruction in adults.1,2 Etiology is secondary to a pathological cause, with neoplasms being responsible for 65% of these cases.3,4 Clinical presentation in adults is often nonspecific and chronic, contributing to late diagnosis. The most common symptoms include abdominal pain (71-90%), nausea and vomiting (40-60%), and changes in bowel habits (40-50%).5,6 The acute form of presentation, like that seen in children, is less common in adults.Malignant neoplasms in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)infected patients are characterized by early age, pathologies of atypical presentation, and diagnosis in more advanced stages, which have repercussions on management.
