Year: 2025

Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) or Gorlin’s cyst is an uncommon developmental odontogenic pathology with cystic and neoplastic characteristics. Initially described by Gorlin et al . in 1962, the condition has undergone various nomenclatural revisions in the World Health Organization classification of odontogenic tumors. Histopathologically, it is characterized by the presence of odontogenic epithelium, ghost cells, and dystrophic calcifications. Clinically, it typically manifests as a painless mass. Most of the time, it is an incidental radiographic finding. We report a case of COC in the maxillary bone and present its clinical, radiographic, and histopathological features as well as the approach to management and the prognosis. Understanding the characteristic features of COC is essential for making the correct diagnosis and management. In addition, this abstract highlights the diagnostic process, rationale for treatment, patient perspective, follow-up findings, and a brief timeline.
