Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Introduction: Digital dentistry, which includes technologies such as intraoral scanning, three-dimensional printing, and computer-aided designing/computer-aided manufacturing, is revolutionizing clinical workflows by enhancing efficiency and accuracy through streamlined data integration. As these tools become integral to modern practice, understanding their adoption is essential. This study aims to evaluate the knowledge and awareness of various digital dental technologies among dentists in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Materials and Methods: An online cross-sectional survey using a Google questionnaire form was carried out between May 1, 2024, and June 30, 2024, among private practitioners, postgraduate students, and teaching faculty in Vidarbha. The validated survey consisted of 10 questions assessing awareness, benefits, limitations, and clinical application of digital dentistry. The data were examined using the Chi-square test in SPSS software, considering P < 0.05. Results: Out of 323 respondents, 50.2% were private practitioners, 40.9% postgraduate students, and 9% teaching faculty. The mean participant age was 30.22 years, with 41.5% of males and 58.5% of females; 70.9% had <5 years of experience. Knowledge levels varied, with private practitioners showing significantly higher awareness of intraoral scanners ( P = 0.031) and digital denture fabrication ( P = 0.001). Most participants viewed digital dentistry as costly and felt professional knowledge was lacking. Conclusion: While general awareness of digital dentistry exists, knowledge of its specific applications is limited, particularly among faculty and students. Improved education and training are crucial for encouraging the acceptance and incorporation of digital technologies into clinical practice.
